Which agency handles which recall (FDA vs USDA vs CPSC vs NHTSA)
Four agencies publish almost every U.S. product recall a household will run into. They do not share one database. RecallRadar copies the free official feeds and links back to the notice.
FDA
The Food and Drug Administration recalls most foods other than meat, poultry, and processed egg products. That includes shell eggs, produce, seafood, dairy, packaged foods, and dietary supplements. It also recalls human drugs, medical devices, and pet food. Weekly enforcement reports are on openFDA. Pet food shows up more reliably in FDA firm press releases than in those enforcement reports. The public list of recent press announcements is the FDA recalls page.
USDA FSIS
The Food Safety and Inspection Service recalls meat, poultry, and egg products from inspected plants. Egg products are broken and processed eggs (liquid, frozen, dried), not shell eggs in a carton. FSIS notices name the product, the pounds recalled, the establishment number, and how far it was distributed.
CPSC
The Consumer Product Safety Commission recalls household products: appliances, furniture, tools, toys, and most nursery gear. It does not recall cars, food, or drugs. Durable infant-product registration is a CPSC rule, and it is not a substitute for reading the recall; see the baby gear guide.
NHTSA
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recalls vehicles, tires, child car seats, and vehicle equipment. Check a specific car with the VIN at NHTSA, not only by make and model. This site lists the campaigns and explains the VIN lookup. It does not run that lookup.
What RecallRadar adds
Once a day the site re-reads those public sources, keeps roughly the last 12 months, and publishes a page for each notice plus email alerts you confirm. It is not affiliated with any agency. If our text and the official notice disagree, follow the official notice. Barcode scan only helps when the notice printed a UPC. Sign up for a daily digest or a watch on brands, keywords, allergens, or a category.
